Retro//Reflection - Issue #44

Sometimes an image is just about shapes, patterns and the space in between.

A nice zig-zag shape at the pool!

Lately, it has been way too hot in this part of the world (The Netherlands) to do anything productive in terms of photography. I couldn’t even bring myself to sit at my desk at night for some photo culling and processing, let alone to go out with my camera.

But alas, today I did find the energy and inspiration to have a look through my digital catalog to see if I could find some images that might fit together. Maybe a few that follow some kind of theme …

And that got me to notice something: more often than before, I make images that seem more about shape, form and patterns rather than about the actual subject (if that makes sense). I mean, the further back I go in my catalog, the less frequent photos about geometry appear.

I guess I like this kind of photography more these days. It could also be that maybe I have learned a thing or two about seeing instead of just looking? But what do I know.

Anyway, for this one I thought I’d finish a handful of photographs (because of course a lot of them have been halfway-there already on my hard drive for ages) and show them here!

Even my son chipped in a while ago by “pre-processing” the following two images of a simple ceiling lamp. I only added an XPAN-crop (65:24) and thought they looked cool!

…. and looking at my (still ongoing) BeyondFocus series, I also notice the same thing:

It’s kind of like seeing a different picture within the thing you’re looking at.
Or maybe it’s just the heat ;-)
