Retro//Reflection - Issue #19
RBNXPLRNG in the village of Puth, Limburg (The Netherlands) - Extended Edition
Once or twice per month I send out a letter with a handful of (my) photographs and share a bit of insight on the ‘why?’ or ‘how?’. As an enthusiastic photographer, anything goes.
Maybe you’ll learn something?
Or perhaps it will spark some inspiration?
A few months ago
asked readers if they wanted to participate in a small fun project he liked to call RBNXPLRNG (which reads as “Urban Exploring”):RBNXPLRNG is about exploring your own urban environment by following the diagram, where at each intersection you have to choose one of two options presented to you, either turn left or right or go straight on. Once you have made this choice, you must take a photograph before reaching the next junction. You can decide what appears on this photo. At the end of the program you will have taken 5 photos.

I thought this was an excellent idea to just grab my camera and head out into the village where I live to make some photos. So I did and I sent them to Marcel, because he also told us he wanted to make a Darkrooms Magazine Special of all submitted photos!
Although I did follow the instructions, I admit that I took a few more photos than the five I submitted, so I thought it would be nice to show them here in a separate Substack post: RBNXPLRNG in Puth - The Extended Edition (or maybe “RBNXPLRNG PTH XTNDD”?).
As you can see, Puth is quite a rural town in Limburg, The Netherlands. Among the other entries in the Darkrooms Magazine Special, it might look a little out of place (New York, Glasgow, Barcelona, Puth …), but hey what can I do? 😉 I’ll take it - it’s awesome to see your photos in a photography magazine!
RBNXPLRNG is a fun challenge, that anyone can do within a hour or so (and remember: a smartphone will do too!). I'm sure I’ll do the challenge again in other towns or cities nearby.
That’s it for now. I’ll end with an Aerochromified photo of the fields around Puth :)
Each issue I want to end with mentioning a photographer, a photography-related website or publication, simply to show my appreciation for what they do.
This time I’ll link to Marcel’s Darkroom Magazine article here on Substack on the Darkrooms Magazine Special where you can have a look at my original 5 submitted photos as well as the awesome photos submitted by ten or so other photographers. You can read the magazine for free online - it’s well worth to have a look!:
That’s it for this issue. Thank you for reading until the end. Feel free to leave a short comment or message. Appreciate it!
Until next time, cheers,
Ronald

ps: this article/newsletter/post is free, because I’m not doing this to make a profit. Also, I don’t like subscriptions at all (Tom Pendergast has a great article about not going paid, which I agree with). However, if you do want to show your support, a coffee always helps me writing and posting here ;-)
Enjoyed the “walk” around your village, thanks!
Thanks for mentioning this, Ronald. Was great fun to see all the results of RBNXPLRNG and putting it in a magazine.
