You’re absolutely right, they should be on the list too. I’ve added their publications and send them a message to let them know (in case they would mind :)).

I think as a project this could be really cool. Great photos, Ronald and yes I absolutely remember Lucky Luke, it was one of my favourites.

Thanks, that's nice to hear! Lucky Luke was one of my favorites too, together with Suske & Wiske, Astrix & Obelix and Kuifje (Tin Tin) ;-)

These are great! I now count photos of my shadow as self portraits, as you show there are clever compositions you can cast your shadow to make and capture. Or even a straight up "I was here" statement!

Yes indeed. Thank you Paul.

Nice to see the mention for Amateur Photographer. They have been around a long time. I used to buy the printed version (which back then in the seventies was the only version). I ordered my first camera - a Zorkie 4K - from a retailer advertising in AP.

Hm ... a printed magazine, how quaint ;-) Thanks for your comment Olli!

The photographers shadow - that's a great project Ronald. I often include my shadow (and my partner) deliberately in an image for me, to place me in a moment or make a quirkier shot...I definitely consider them as self portraits.

Thanks Lin. Sometimes I totally forget about those opportunities, but then sometimes I notice my shadow and remember this could make a nice and quirky image :)

This was very interesting! I work a lot with self-portraits so the shadow self-portrait has been something I have been dabbling in too. Will be posting some soon but it’s nice to see someone write up on a photography classic ;)!

Ron, when you get the chance I’d love to have my new photography-focused Substack to your very timely Photography Community list. As a newbie trying to find like spirits you’ve jump started my attempts to connect. Regardless of whether I make the list or not I’d like to thank you for helping us all find each other.

I chuckle, only because I think we've all done this. Particularly opening the hands up, so you can see the definition of the fingers. One of my favourite shadow images, is one taken a couple of years ago. It was just the right conditions, and my finished photo shows a shadow of me, with a brocken spectre around the top of my head. I think it was a 1/1000 shot, but I'm happy with it.

Keep going with the project. A always find that an entire body of work around a single subject is more engaging than a feed or portfolio of entire work which covers everything.

Thanks for your comment Michael! Glad to see I'm not the only one ;-) You've got that photo online somewhere? I still don't know if I want to turn it into a 'project' (or series or something) but we'll see how many more I capture in the foreseeable future. I do agree as well, I think a series/collection/project is has more to it than just single photos. Cheers!

That’s very nice! Haha, as photographers, we are always behind the cameras, so either mirrors or shadows to document ourselves! “Mirrors and Shadows” is also a good publication name! Haha!
